The Certified Professional in Health Care Risk Management (CPHRM) is a professional certification for individuals working in healthcare risk management and related fields.

The examination evaluates knowledge across five major healthcare risk management domains: Clinical/Patient Safety, Risk Financing, Legal and Regulatory, Health Care Operations, and Claims & Litigation.

The official CPHRM examination is administered by the American Hospital Association Certification Center through PSI. Candidates may take the examination at an approved PSI testing center or through live-remote proctoring.

Eligibility & prerequisites

  • Baccalaureate degree or higher + 5 years of experience in a health care setting or with a provider of services to the health care industry
  • OR
  • Associate degree or equivalent + 7 years of experience in a health care setting or with a provider of services to the health care industry
  • OR
  • High school diploma or equivalent + 9 years of experience in a health care setting or with a provider of services to the health care industry
  • Plus 3,000 hours or 50% of full-time job duties in health care risk management within the last 3 years
